Exciting Visa Reforms to Enhance Relocation Opportunities in South Africa

We are pleased to announce the recent introduction of a remote work visitor visa and a points-based work visa system in South Africa, officially gazetted by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) on October 9.

This significant reform aims to attract high-income visitors who can stay in the country for periods ranging from three months to three years, provided they earn a minimum of R650,796 (€33,800) annually.

DHA Minister, Leon Schreiber described these reforms as among the most impactful in decades, designed to reposition South Africa as a prime destination for both investment and tourism. By focusing on affluent individuals working for foreign companies, the new visa is expected to bolster the local economy through increased spending and tax contributions.

In addition to simplifying the visa application process, the points-based system aims to enhance transparency in determining eligibility for various work visas. This change is welcomed by industry leaders, who anticipate a boost in tourism and economic activity.

Cape Town is actively preparing to capitalise on these reforms, promoting itself as a leading destination for remote workers. With longer stays encouraged, this initiative is set to benefit local businesses and create new opportunities in the relocation and moving sector.
